Luther Crest is a Diakon Lutheran Social Ministries community and is one of their nine large locations in the state of Pennsylvania. Diakon is a multi-service, not-for-profit organization committed to offering active seniors the opportunity to enjoy an engaging, fulfilling lifestyle in attractive and affordable accommodations, as well as have access to a continuum of health care services and community-based programs. Luther Crest provides beautiful independent living cottages, personal care, memory care, rehabilitation and traditional nursing offerings for their residents. ETI has shared a long history with the Diakon and Luther Crest organizations and have assisted in their many renovations. Luther Crest underwent a complete renovation of their Skilled Nursing and Personal Care adjacent wings with the goal is a Diakon Lutheran Social Ministries community and is one of their nine large locations in the state of Pennsylvania. Analysis
The Skilled Nursing and Personal Care wing nurse call renovation posed a few challenges with a significant variation of acuity, sharing of staff members and different needs/expectations by the residents and staff members. ETI worked with the Luther Crest staff, Orlando Diefenderfer Electrical Contractors and Benchmark Construction to identify the needs and formulate the best solution. The Skilled Nursing wing was in need of two way audio communication from nursing staff into the resident rooms, anti-wander door control for the memory challenged and the ability to communicate events though out the shared staff in the Skilled Nursing and Personal Care. The Personal Care wing was in need of a CAT5 based tone visual system for the much lower acuity residents and the ability to communicate events to the shared staff like the Skilled Nursing wing requires.
Solution
After many discussions, live demonstrations and feedback from the staff, Luther Crest selected ETI and Orlando Diefenderfer Electrical Contractors to install a West-Call Novus Acute Care and Novus Visual Nurse Call Systems. Since two way voice communication was essential in the Skilled Nursing wing, ETI provided the West Call Novus Acute Care System. ETI also provided anti-wander devices on all important doors to provide assurance that residents with memory challenges would not be able to wander off the premises. The Novus Visual Nurse Call System was used in the Personal Care wing which offered a high technology solution without the extra functionality of the Skilled Nursing wing and a more relaxed budget. ETI tied all of these solutions into one central visual display that provided all of the calls from both wings and the anti-wander system for optimal coverage of both areas. The staff was also provided with pocket pagers that allow all of the calls from both wings to send messages to the specific staff members on duty serving the various areas. This solution allows the staff members to respond to resident request faster, more accurately and to take advantage of their large staff member presence.
